THEY ARE HERE

THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE

BUT NEVER QUITE LIKE THIS

AND NOW THEY WANT MORE

I'm waiting for the world to change
Turn around, change the way
We breed ignoration of beauty and creation
A non stop battle with life in the saddle
Could it be, could it only be
The things that have been left to bleed
Tell me now with all honesty
This precious world of yours is free

And if you see me staring
You know that I'm not here
I'm searching for reasons to overcome the fear
They're here, they're here, around me
He stands, he stands, beside me
Could it be could it only be

Competing with the loud demands
See the sights and hear the sounds
Of desperation of war and creation
The earth must cost and now we're faking
Could it be, could it only be
Chances slip through our fingertips
Tell me the earth turns for the worse
I'll tell your words are not the first

And if you see me staring
You know that I'm not here
I'm searching for reasons to overcome the fear
They're here, they're here, around me
He stands, he stands, beside me
Could it be could it only be

RIDING LIGHT

RIDING ON A PHOTON

“Uncanny as they are, the basic features of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity have worked their way into our common stock of knowledge. The speed of light – 186,000 miles a second – is an unvarying constant, and everything else in the physical universe adjusts to it. Seated in their stalled cars at a railroad crossing, impatient drivers see the train whizzing past them, while its passengers see the cars flying past their windows in the opposite direction. That relativity concerns space; but physics locks space, time, and matter together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, so the relativity just mentioned turns up in time and matter as well. If you are hurtling through space, time (your watch) slows down. On a bicycle the slowing is unnoticeable, but if you flew a trillion miles in a fighter plane and landed at six in the evening according to your watch, the clocks in the airport you departed from would read seven. And the closer your plane came to traveling at 186,000 miles per second, the slower its clocks would run, until (if that speed were reached) the plane’s clocks would stop. As for matter, the mass of an object that is in motion increases until, should it attain the speed of light, that mass would be infinite as measured by an unmoving observer.

“Now let us spin all this around and look at it from light’s point of view. Imagine yourself sitting on a particle. On that single “piece” (or quantum) of light you are going nowhere. You are weightless. There is neither time nor space, nor are there separated events. If from the earth it is one hundred light-years to a star, from your position on your quantum of light the star and earth are not separated at all. Moreover, it would seem as if the world were pouring out of you, you and your fellow photons, because light creates. It pumps power into the spatio-temporal world.”
Huston Smith

YOU ARE GOING NOWHERE
YOU ARE WEIGHTLESS
THERE IS NEITHER TIME NOR SPACE
NOR ARE THERE SEPARATED EVENTS
IT WOULD SEEM AS IF
THE WORLD WERE POURING OUT OF YOU
BECAUSE LIGHT CREATES

A SEAT AT THE FRACKING TABLE

The Inquirer - Sunday, December 26, 2010

"And then there's Christine Toretti, another frequent GOP donor who is CEO of S.W. Jack Drilling Co. Her firm is heavily involved with drilling for natural gas in the state's Marcellus Shale Region. Corbett opposes a sensible effort to impose a wellhead tax, as have all orther gas-producing states.
"Corbett named Toretti cochair of his transition team. She donated more than $127,000 to his campaign, including air transportation, lodging costs, and a single check last August for $75,000.
"A spokesman for Corbett said there's no correlation between giving large amounts of cash to the campaign and being chosen to serve on the transition team. And Team Corbett may believe that.
"The message...is clear. Large campaign checks buy a seat at the table. And a seat at the table is the best way to get your fill."

Just for fun: In 1974 I took my babe to see Melissa Manchester at a small club in Philadelphia. Out came her opening act - a small fellow we had never heard of all dressed up as a clown...???
He was Fantastic.
Thankfully, there is a video record of Leo on that tour. Here are a few of his songs.
