Anne Thompson talks to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson
"I see an increasing role
for natural gas in general"
"The corollary is you can see fracking
playing a larger and larger role
in obtaining that natural gas"
playing a larger and larger role
in obtaining that natural gas"
Is the epa against fracking?
"No, no and I don't want anyone to think that epa
has a position - we're not going to prejudge the process.
First, it's been used for a long long time but it's now
being used more than ever before and in watersheds
that are more densely populated than ever before"
"The epa doesn't have any evidence sitting here today of
chemical contamination of water from fracking chemicals
but there are certainly plenty of questions not only
about the chemicals but of the process itself"
"When you frack you're changing the geology down there
and that geology is the same geology that many
of our wells are influenced by"
"We want to be certain that we're not making a mistake
that 20 or 40 years from now we could have avoided
...my belief is the science will help inform the process"
"The american who chooses to develop
natural gas resources on his or her property may be impacting property that they don't own or people's wells they don't...
that's why federal gov't needs to take a look"
"Part of our job ... to protect one of
the most incredible resources
that we have in our county
which is our drinking water"
